Is breast augmentation for me?
The great thing about the breast augmentation procedure is that it can be customized for just about every woman’s own unique goals. The versatility of breast implants has made this a procedure for anyone from mothers looking to restore their pre-baby figure, to women—young and old—who have never quite had the size or shape of breasts they desired.
We offer a variety of different breast implant options, allowing us to create the best procedure plan for your body and your desired outcome. Breast implants can be great for achieving a subtle boost in your cup size, for correcting asymmetrical breasts, or for creating a more dramatic enhancement. Whether you want to feel more comfortable in your favorite clothes or stand out in a bikini, our team of Midsota plastic surgeons can help achieve your goals with a personalized breast augmentation procedure.
What are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation?
Women may choose to pursue breast implants for several different reasons, including to:
- Increase breast size
- Correct breast asymmetry
- Restore breast volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss
- Reconstruct one or both breasts
Silicone (cohesive gel) and saline breast implants have both been approved by the FDA and can provide a wide range of looks to meet your desired outcome. Each implant gives the option of various shapes, sizes, profiles, and even textures. Your Midsota plastic surgeon will work with you to choose the right breast implants for your procedure.
How is a Breast Augmentation Performed?
The details of your breast augmentation will all be discussed during your consultation prior to your surgery. When you come in for your procedure, you and your Midsota plastic surgeon will have already determined aspects of your procedure such as incision location, implant placement, and, of course, implant type and size.
Your breast augmentation will be performed under general anesthesia—you will not be awake during the surgery. An incision will then be made in the pre-determined location, carefully using your body’s natural contours to minimize visibility of any future scarring. Your Midsota plastic surgeon will create a pocket to hold the breast implant either on top or beneath the pectoral muscle. Your implants are then placed through the incision and into the pocket. Once they are in place, the saline implants are filled and adjusted, whereas silicone implants are inserted with a pre-filled cohesive silicone gel. Your surgeon will then carefully observe the implants to make sure your breasts are as symmetric as possible and match your desired shape and size. Once your doctors are confident you will love your results, your incisions are closed and any necessary bandages and dressings are put in place.
How Long Does Breast Augmentation Surgery Take?
The average breast augmentation surgery should take no more than a couple hours to complete. Factors such as incision location, implant placement, and implant type/size can affect the length of your breast augmentation surgery.
How Long is Breast Augmentation Recovery?
The recovery period after your breast augmentation should go by fairly quickly. Most women are able to return to work after just several days or a week. You may experience some bruising and swelling of your breasts for a few weeks, and a support bra will need to be worn during this time to assist in the healing process.
When will I Notice the Results of My Breast Augmentation?
You should notice a change in the size, shape, and feel of your breasts immediately. Any bruising and swelling will gradually fade over the next few weeks, and you should notice your scar flatten and fade over time. Incision lines can be easily hidden beneath your clothing—even under most bathing suits and lingerie.
The results of your breast augmentation are designed to last for years to come, but it is important to remember that implants are not intended to be permanent. If an implant needs to be replaced, or you want to revise a previous augmentation for personal reasons, you can undergo a revision breast augmentation surgery.
