DIEP Flap Radio Interview

Midsota Plastic Surgeons in St. Cloud, MN is pleased to announce that they now offer the "Deep Inferior Epigastric Artery Perforator" (DIEP) flap for breast reconstruction. DIEP, a state of the art procedure, is the name of the main blood vessel that runs through the tissue that is used to reconstruct the breast. In DIEP flap reconstruction, skin, fat and blood vessels - not muscle - are removed from the lower abdomen.
The DIEP flap is the latest and most technically advanced procedure for reconstructing a patient's breast using her own tissue. Although it uses the same abdominal tissue, it is an advancement and improvement on the TRAM flap, which had originally been introduced in 1982. The DIEP flap causes less pain, allows for a shorter hospitalization and decreases the chances of some complications when compared to the TRAM flap.
It is an excellent option for those patients wishing to avoid using an implant, for unilateral reconstruction or when there is a history of radiation to the chest.
Since 2006, Dr. Houle at Midsota Plastic Surgeons has performed over 150 of these reconstructive procedures with exceptional results and low complication rates.
We are very excited to be one of only three locations in Minnesota to offer the DIEP flap for breast reconstruction.
