Blog ArticleMidsota Plastic Surgeons have been proud to partner with HELPS International, a Texas based non-profit. For almost 30 years, Midsota has served the poor and indigenous peoples of Guatemala by providing surgical care. Our physicians and staff have been key supporters of HELPS. In addition to providing medical care, the Midsota team has organized and collected medical supplies and necessary surgical equipment.
Providing surgical care to the poor, Midsota has facilitated over 70 multidisciplinary medical teams of up to 100 volunteers each. In total, HELPS International has served nearly 250,000 patients and performed over 18,000 surgical procedures.
For over 25 years, Helps International, in partnership with Midsota Plastic Surgeons and multiple other medical teams from across the country, has served nearly 250,000 clinic patients and performed over 18,000 surgical procedures.
Dr. Paul Schultz continues to lead teams yearly to Guatemala to help the poor in greatest need. In 2015, Midsota surgeons and staff assisted teams to San Cristobal and Huehuetenango, Guatemala, serving over 1400 patients in clinic and 220 surgical patients.
A dedicated Midsota team ready to serve, as Dr. Schultz says, “the volunteers
enthusiastically return year after year, despite the conditions,
for the opportunity to give of their skills and resources.”
Those we serve became both a joy and an inspiration to us as volunteers
We hope to instill hope through our partnership
“The volunteers find this experience to be life-changing, even as they are changing the lives of their patients.” –Dr. Schultz
Helping hands: Angel, a six year old boy, came to Dr. Schultz with webbed
hands and a cleft palate—Dr. Schultz was able to repair both hands and close
his cleft palate. His story speaks powerfully to the successful results that
HELPS teams have been able to bring about in Guatemala.
